Vote Susan Renda for Mayor September 6th, 2007!

The Issues

A mayor is expected to work in a civil, professional and productive manner with neighboring communities for the benefit of the Village.
My past accomplishments as an elected leader demonstrate that I can fulfill these important roles as the next mayor of Moreland Hills.”

PRESERVATION OF RURAL CHARM

There are many issues facing the Village of Moreland Hills, but none more important than preserving our rural charm. People move into our Village because they want a safe and quiet environment with strong schools. It is important that the mayor make sure these qualities remain here.

But more can be done to protect our ever-changing habitat. I pledge to work with the engineer to develop a 5-year plan for the roads and for environmental issues. We have issues with mud slides and erosion, but we’re not planning for those issues, only dealing with crises as they happen. I embrace storm water management as a way to avoid future flooding issues and one of many ways to protect environmentally sensitive areas in the Village.

The first Comprehensive Land Use Plan since 1972 was passed while I served on council.
This was to be used as a roadmap for future planning in the Village. As mayor, I will ensure the recommendations are still applicable and enforced.

I pledge to work with developers to facilitate LIMITED and tasteful commercial development throughout the Village.

Finally, I will work with the Chagrin River Land Conservancy to identify and conserve tracts of land in the Village. I would
also appoint a parks commission with both resident and council representation to oversee our green space.

STRONG FISCAL MANAGEMENT

As former council president and finance committee chair, I led Village Council to follow the treasurer’s conservative budgeting practices, which increased the Village’s Bond Rating to Triple-A.

MORELAND HILLS IS THE ONLY VILLAGE IN THE STATE OF OHIO TO RECEIVE A TRIPLE-A BOND RATING…THE HIGHEST RATING POSSIBLE.

As mayor, I will work cooperatively with other mayors in the valley to operate the Village more efficiently. Our entire community is beginning to see the results of home foreclosures and a weakened housing market. In fact, while neighboring communities have seen their median home values significantly increase, the median home value in Moreland Hills has decreased nearly 2% over the last five years*. Our Village does have foreclosures and those properties need to be maintained. I will direct the building department to include inspections on foreclosed homes and make sure lawns are mowed and outdoor maintenance is provided to preserve our rural charm.

I strongly disagree with the idea of taking your tax dollars away from you and then telling you that someday our Village will do something
with the funds. YOU ARE BEING TAXED AND NOT GETTING THE FULL BENEFIT FROM THOSE FUNDS! As mayor, I will ensure your tax
dollars are used conservatively and appropriately to provide you with the excellent services and efficient municipal government you expect.

PUBLIC SAFETY

As a council woman, I have made safety for all residents a priority. As mayor, I will continue to support regional concepts through strong relationships with
Chagrin Valley communities to improve emergency response times to Moreland Hills residents. I will continue to support our excellent police department and
update their equipment when necessary. Additionally, I will ensure that all Village vehicles and departments are equipped with the necessary emergency equipment
to prevent serious injury to Village workers when accidents occur.

I have worked cooperatively with Orange Village to create a CERT team for Moreland Hills Residents. I worked cooperatively with Pepper Pike to create a
POD team for Moreland Hills residents.  We must continue to improve our safety services to remain the safest community* in the area.

OPEN, HONEST COMMUNICATION

Residents of Moreland Hills deserve the best communication possible regarding city news, council notes and special events. I will update our Village website to make it more informative and user-friendly.

I will completely change Council Highlights to make it more issue-oriented rather than
just a report on vote counts. I will offer the residents the option of receiving this newsletter by e-mail.
